Bronwyn, what were you up to before coming here?

I just recently graduated from Sussex High School. I started welding in Grade 12, loved it, and took both semesters. I did really well, so they sent me to the Skills Canada Competition last April. I came here to Ready Arc in September.

Why welding?

Pretty much my whole family works in the trades. When I took welding I realized I liked it and I wasn’t half bad at it either. No one else in my family is a welder, they’re mostly heavy equipment mechanics, automotive mechanics, and logging – so I’m doing my own thing but still stuck with the trades.

What made you choose Ready Arc?

Steve came to visit our class. I had heard about Ready Arc already, but I was sold after his presentation. After that I applied and signed up for an interview, and Steve came back to the school to do that. I was lucky to come straight out of high school, because there was just one more seat in this class when I signed up. Now, I can say I graduated twice in one year.

So, how were your six months with us?

For the first couple months, I wasn’t all in but I picked up the pace and got to it, in my booth welding all the time. The classroom work can be hard and so is the shop but you get used to it. I loved learning from Steve. He knows so much about everything. He’s really helpful too and will come show you exactly how to do things. It really makes it easier to get the hang of it, because he explains things in a way that’s easy to understand. Jason knows his stuff in blueprint and math, and he gives us real world examples to help us understand, like with little tasks and examples from around the shop.

You made it to graduation day. What’s next?

I just put my resume in for the 213, and I think my name’s been shared a couple of times as someone who did well here, so hopefully, everything lines up and I get an interview soon. I’m looking forward to getting my career moving and seeing what the future holds.
